Financial Assistance for Veterinary Costs

The organizations listed below provide financial assistance to help cover the cost of medical care for companion animals. Each organization is independent and has its own set of rules and guidelines. The inclusion of a service, organization, or program in this listing is not an endorsement, recommendation, or guarantee of funds.

Red Rover

Provides grants of around $200 for urgent and emergency veterinary care.


Brown Dog Foundation

Provides assistance for those who have a sick pet that would respond to treatment, but do not have funds immediately available.

Paws 4 A Cure

Provides assistance for those with dogs or cats with illness or injury.

The Shakespeare Animal Fund

Small grants of between $50 and $100 are typically available to people on a fixed income or with annual incomes below the federal poverty guidelines.


Rose's Fund for Animals

For pets/found animals that have a life-threatening illness, injury, or condition with a good prognosis to survive.

Pet Assistance Inc.

Offers veterinary subsidies for urgent or life-threatening emergencies.

  • Washoe C.A.R.E.S. provides low-income senior assistance with basic food and veterinary care
  • Free microchipping for Washoe County residents Monday – Friday from 10 am – 4 pm
  • Vaccination clinics held the first Tuesday of every month from 3 pm – 7 pm
  • Senior pet food distribution on the third Tuesday of every month, while supplies last, from 8 am – 10 am
